As Luck Would Have It

He rushed to the station and climbed into the local train. He couldn’t be late today. He was going to seal the biggest deal of his life. Today was the day when his life was going to change. He felt buoyant and confident. He talked himself into a happy space, completely immersed in a virtual conversation in his mind. He thought he was lucky to have an opportunity to work with such an esteemed client!

Somebody screamed from behind him, but he couldn’t understand what they were saying. Suddenly everything went black. “Sir, we’re sorry to say this, but we had to amputate your legs. This was the only way! You’re lucky to be alive.”
